Why should students study history?

Why should they care about events that took place centuries ago?

Historians would likely argue that studying the past helps us better understand the present and can even guide our future decisions.

Governments and political systems have certainly evolved over the centuries. The days of leaders ruling through fear and cruelty may seem like a thing of the past—but are they really?

This and many other thought-provoking questions were the focus of today’s world history class, where students engaged in an engaging Socratic seminar discussion.
