The English Department at Pacific American school strives to prepare students for a rigorous, first-rate university program. We have separate classes for literature and for expository writing and stress sentence-level revision as well as advanced composition skills. All students learn research fundamentals and hone research-based writing skills as well. We offer AP Research, AP Seminar, and AP English Language and Composition, 

Our literature classes emphasize critical thinking and are aligned with common core standards. The overall design is a spiral curriculum in which key concepts are presented repeatedly with deepening levels of complexity and sophistication.

We believe that reading literature enriches a student’s understanding of themselves and exposes them to new ideas and ways of thinking. This furthers our goal of creating global citizens. The study of literature provides an entrance into the lives of others throughout history, allowing students to compare their own thoughts and experiences to perennial, universal ideas.
