Leadership and Ecology Camp on Yang Ming Shan
October 20th, 2008
During the second and third week of October, our students attended Camp Taiwan on Yang Ming Shan. Both high school and middle school had a four day leadership camp on Oct. 8 -11 and Oct. 12-15. G3-G5 had a two day ecology camp on Oct.16-17.
The leadership camp focused upon the development of leadership skills for secondary school, with time also dedicated to cooperative and team building exercises. From wall climbing to archery, the wide range of activities challenged students to take risks and overcome personal fears. They were given opportunities to problem solving in a group setting, and they were taught to support their fellow teammates in a very exciting and exotic setting.
For elementary school, this was an overnight event in which the students learned about ecosystems. There were three parts to the ecosystem portion of the event. These included a field ecosystem, a river, and a forest study.
Camping was a complete success. The only difficulty was it rained a lot every day on Yang Ming Shan. All of us had to wear raincoat most of time, and our clothes and shoes were always wet. It’s touching that all students did their best to accomplish all activities and tasks under rain.
